The Policy and Research Division, is a specialized unit within the Ministry, headed by a Senior Foreign Service Officer (FSO), charged with the responsibility of assisting in the formulation and development of the country’s foreign policy and ultimately, the execution of its external relations. As a result, it has a huge influence on most of the technical work produced by the Ministry.
The work of the Division can be put in two (2) main categories: bilateral and multilateral engagements; consisting of two (2) broad functions: i. research (intelligence gathering and monitoring) and ii. analysis.
Output in the Division is generally reflected in oral and written advice. Briefs, position papers, memoranda, diplomatic notes, statements, press releases etc. make up the bulk of the written submissions.
